The Geriatric Psychiatry Program has both acute inpatient and community components that provide prompt, accessible, and specialized assessment, treatment, consultation, and support services. The treatments and services provided are guided by evidence based research and best practices.
Acute Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Program
The Acute Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Program is located at Villa Caritas. This 150 bed facility has 120 acute care beds divided into 4 units that are allocated for acute geriatric psychiatry patients, and a 30 bed alternate level of care unit. Villa Caritas is a designated facility. Patients are admitted on a voluntary basis or involuntarily under the Mental Health Act.
Villa Caritas is not a permanent residence for patients.
Community Geriatric Psychiatry Program
The Community Geriatric Psychiatry Program has its main office located in the Westmount Shopping Centre and a satellite office located in the Ermineskin neighbourhood. The program works in partnership with seniors to individualize care in their own home or community to promote recovery and well-being. The program also includes two community based psychiatric day programs for individuals with diagnosed mental health concerns. One day program is located at Westmount Shopping Centre (25 clients daily) and the other is located in Ermineskin (25 clients daily).
