Supplementary health, dental & travel coverage

Covenant Health provides mandatory health and dental coverage through Alberta Blue Cross for all eligible employees. Coverage includes prescription drug coverage, hospital services, vision and other health-related expenses.

Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP)

LAPP is a defined benefit pension plan designed for employees of the provincial health system, schools boards, colleges and technical institutes in Alberta. Employees receive a pension based on their annual salary and years of service.

Mandatory participation

Permanent full-time and permanent part-time employees who are regularly scheduled to work an average of 30 hours per week are automatically enrolled in LAPP.

Optional participation

Permanent part-time employees who are regularly scheduled to work an average of 14 to 29.9 hours/week and temporary employees working at least 30 hours/week for a period of one year or more may enroll in LAPP.

Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan

Covenant Health provides all employees with the opportunity to contribute to a Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) through payroll deduction. RRSP contributions are tax deductible from your income, with taxes applied only when the savings are withdrawn.

Flexible Spending Account

The Flexible Spending Account is a benefit that is 100% employer funded. Depending on the collective agreement, eligible employees can allocate flex credits to their choice of health spending, personal spending, RRSP or TFSA accounts each year.  

Credits allocated to health spending are non-taxable and can be used for health-related expenses, where personal spending credits can be used for wellness, professional development and family care expenses.

Life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance

Covenant Health provides life insurance coverage for all eligible employees equivalent to your annual basic salary. Accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage for eligible employees is also equivalent to your annual basic earnings.

Disability coverage

Short-term disability benefits are available for eligible employees who are unable to work due to illness or injury. This benefit is payable for a maximum of 24 weeks from the date of your disability.

Long-term disability benefits begin for eligible employees who are unable to work after 24 weeks of total disability.

Employee & Family Assistance Program

Every Covenant Health employee and their immediate family members have access to free and confidential health and wellness support services, available at no cost. Our Employee & Family Assistance Program offers a variety of supports, including free and confidential counselling, telephone coaching and e-courses.

Employee discounts

Covenant Health has established discounts for staff through generous corporate partners. These include fitness centre discounts, employee hardware purchase program, home and auto insurances, telecommunication, and eateries.

Relocation assistance

New Covenant Health employees may be eligible for financial assistance (at the discretion of the hiring manager) with moving expenses, subject to the eligibility of the position, and a return service agreement. The following criteria must be met before relocation assistance can be considered:

  • The position must be a permanent or temporary and eligible for benefits (if temporary, the position must be for at least six months)
  • The employee must live more than 100 kilometers from the hiring site
  • The employee’s household has not received relocation assistance/reimbursement from other sources for the relocation

Candidates seeking relocation assistance must discuss their request with the hiring manager at the time of interview.  If approved, candidates will be required to sign a return service agreement in conjunction with the offer of employment, prior to their start date with Covenant Health.

Student loan forgiveness

Covenant Health staff working in rural hospitals or care centres may be eligible for the Canada student loan forgiveness program.

 

Training and development

Covenant Health is committed to continuous learning and professional development for all employees. Learning opportunities for all employees are available through our online learning environment, in-person development workshops and unit- or department-specific education and orientation. 

Staff education fund

Covenant Health's education fund supports staff to enhance their job-related knowledge and skills. The fund can be used toward formal education such as certificate, degree, designation graduate or post-graduate programs.
