Villa Caritas is an acute mental health facility that specializes in caring for seniors with complex mental and medical health issues. Our mission is to assess, stabilize, and treat patients and transition them back to the most appropriate care setting in the community. Villa Caritas is not a permanent residence for patients.

The patients we serve have a broad range of moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses, such as cognitive disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Our patients often have complex psychosocial needs and are admitted based on their individual treatment needs.

Our staff work to improve the mental health of seniors to maximize function and capability in all areas of their lives. We encourage families to be involved in their loved ones’ care for optimum long-term outcomes. With an aging population, Villa’s role in the care of seniors in the Edmonton Zone is increasingly vital.

Villa Caritas is a part of Covenant Health's Geriatric Psychiatry Program, which provides follow up and support to seniors with mental illness living in the community. The program encapsulates the values of Covenant Health by promoting a patient-centered approach that involves patients in all aspects of their treatment and recovery. We consider collaboration between the patient, family and support system and the care team to be an integral part of the program.

Stop the spread of germs

  • For the safety of our patients, we encourage you to clean your hands when you visit. See A Guide to Clean Hands for information on protecting yourself and your loved ones.
  • If you’re sick, it's best to wait and visit your loved one when you’re feeling better. If you must visit and you’re coughing or sneezing, consider wearing a mask to protect your loved one.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and then discard the tissue. If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your upper sleeve or elbow.
  • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer, especially after coughing or sneezing.
