Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Banff Emergency Medical Service (EMS) provides pre-hospital inter-facility transport for the Town of Banff, Village of Lake Louise, Banff National Park (Improvement District No.9) and surrounding area.
As a hospital-based service, Banff Advanced Life Support teams have been able to maintain the specialized training and critical skills required for the high level of patient acuity, long distances and back-country rescue.
Banff Mineral Springs Hospital refers the third greatest number of severe trauma patients (Injury Severity Score >12) to the regional trauma centre in Calgary. Traumatic injuries make up over 30% of all Banff EMS events. Banff EMS experience high fluctuations in call volume because of the town and national park’s popularity as a vacation destination.
