Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Banff Emergency Medical Service (EMS) provides pre-hospital inter-facility transport for the Town of Banff, Village of Lake Louise, Banff National Park (Improvement District No.9) and surrounding area.

As a hospital-based service, Banff EMS paramedic and EMT teams have been able to maintain the specialized training and critical skills required for the high level of patient acuity, long distances and back-country rescue.

Banff Mineral Springs Hospital refers the third greatest number of severe trauma patients (Injury Severity Score >12) to the regional trauma centre in Calgary. Traumatic injuries make up over 30% of all Banff EMS events. Banff EMS experience high fluctuations in call volume because of the town and national park’s popularity as a vacation destination.
