Advance care planning presentation scheduled for November 23

Dr. Rebecca Sudore to discuss recent controversies, complexities, and practical tips surrounding advance care planning.

EDMONTON, November 10, 2021 – The Calgary Zone Palliative Care Grand Rounds is offering a presentation by Dr. Rebecca Sudore entitled “Advance Care Planning Updates: Controversy, Complexity, and Practical Tips from the PREPARE For Your Care Program”.

The session will be held on Zoom on Tuesday, November 23 from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Click here for the Zoom meeting link.

Aimed at clinicians, this session will focus on:

  1. The evolving definition of advance care planning
  2. Recent controversies about advance care planning
  3. Takeaways from a recent scoping review of advance care planning randomized trials, appropriate outcomes and implementation considerations
  4. Background to the PREPARE for Your Care program and practical tips for how to make advance care planning easier for patients and clinicians

Dr. Rebecca Sudore is a professor of medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of California San Francisco and is a geriatrician, palliative medicine physician and health services researcher. Dr. Sudore conducts research to improve advance care planning and medical decision making for diverse, vulnerable older adults. To empower diverse older adults to engage in advance care planning, she has designed, tested and implemented innovative, patient-centred tools, including an easy-to-read advance directive in over 10 languages and an interactive advance care planning website.

This 1.0 credit-per-hour Group Learning Program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for Mainpro+ credits (Session #189778-046) and is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
