CIHR is seeking external applicants to form the inaugural Standing Committee on Institutes. Individuals who bring international and/or national experience, broad expertise and competency in international granting approaches and international standards of health research excellence to inform and advise on matters related to CIHR’s Institutes are encouraged to apply.

CIHR is committed to the values and principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across all aspects of its business. The composition of the committee will reflect CIHR’s commitment to ensure gender equity and representation of Indigenous Peoples and Francophones. When possible, the committee will include representation of marginalized populations including, but not limited to, applicants who identify as a racialized minority, a person with a disability, and/or a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

The Standing Committee on Institutes is an advisory committee providing meta-level advice related to the CIHR’s Institutes, to the Governing Council.

The major roles and responsibilities of the committee are to:

  • Review the historical role and performance of each Institute and by way of horizon scanning, assess and advise on the role of Institutes against the Institute’s desired function and mandate.
  • Analyze current policies and propose, as needed, the development of new policies regarding the roles, functioning and resourcing of Institutes, Institute Advisory Boards and Scientific Directors.
  • Examine the slate of Institutes and their mandates holistically to support Governing Council on discharging its responsibilities, including but not limited to the quintennial review.
  • Consider the outcomes of the Standing Committee on Science work for future matters regarding CIHR’s Institutes.

The deadline for applications is May 27, 2022.
