**Applications due February 1, 2019**

Background:

Under this joint initiative, SAGE Publishing (SAGE) and the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) will provide two travel awards. Each will include full conference registration as well as $1500 USD toward travel costs to attend the Qualitative Methods (QM) Conference to be held in Brisbane, Australia in May 2019.

Eligible Applicants:

The award will be open to 1st time attendees of the Qualitative Methods (QM) Conference and will favor early career researchers (within 8 years of receiving their PhD), who demonstrate a financial need. Applicants must have an academic appointment at a higher education institution or have recently completed a PhD or post-doc appointment (within 6 months).

Assessment of Applications:

Applicants must complete the online application form found HERE.

All questions must be completed including the attachment of:

(1) A five page summary CV (minimum 12 point font)

(2) A reference letter from the applicant’s chair or supervisor if possible, or another appropriate referee

(3) A 1-page proposal that addresses the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to attend the QM Conference?
  2. How do you think attending this conference will benefit you at this stage of your career?
  3. How will receiving this award help you to attend? What is your financial need?

Applications should be in English and will be assessed based on the proposal (30%), the reference letter (30%) and the applicant (40%).

Requirements of the Successful Candidate

Applicants must:

(1) Attend the 2019 Qualitative Methods (QM) Conference in Brisbane, Australia

(2) Consent to being interviewed by SAGE for promotional purposes

Competition Results

Applications will be peer-reviewed by an independent committee with representatives from SAGE and IIQM. Successful applicant(s) will be notified by the end of February, 2019. Results will also be posted on the websites of IIQM and SAGE and announced via social media and formally via the IIQM list server. Please note: unsuccessful applicants will not be notified nor will feedback be provided to any applicants on their proposals. Neither IIQM nor SAGE will enter into any correspondence regarding the results of the competition.
