This week's reflection

I believe the second half of one's life is meant to be better than the first half. The first half is finding out how you do it. And the second half is enjoying it.

Child Health Clinic moves to St. Marguerite Health Centre

September 14, 2017

EDMONTON – Covenant Health, today officially celebrates the new location of the Child Health Clinic. The newly renovated clinic improves the health and well-bring of more than 10,000 children each with their own unique story.

“The clinic is more than a place children visit when they need a check-up. Many to come to us when they are most vulnerable. The clinic is a place where children will receive the care they need in a welcoming, nurturing environment.” says Gail Cameron, Senior Director of Operations, Women’s & Children’s Health.

The Child Health Clinic offers a range of services for children including a breastfeeding clinic, general pediatrics clinic, pediatric psychiatry clinic and a unique foster care clinic. The foster care clinic provides continuity of care which can be hard to achieve. This means children in foster care going to this clinic can expect to see familiar faces looking after their health even if their caregivers change.

“I’m pleased to celebrate the opening of this beautiful, warm and welcoming space. The range of programs provided by skilled and compassionate clinic staff make a tremendous difference to children at a time when they need that care the most. Our government is committed to improving health care delivery and in doing so, making life better for Alberta families,” says Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health.

Tim and Terri Grills have been foster parents for 16 years. They’ve provided a stable, safe family home for about 50 kids during this time. The Grills have been taking their children to the clinic for years and find comfort knowing their children get reliable and consistent care. “I just can’t say enough good things about the clinic and staff. As a foster parent, I know my kids are getting outstanding care. They go above and beyond and have made a huge difference in our lives,” says Terry.

The clinic was previously located at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. The new location at Covenant Health’s St. Marguerite Health Centre has been transformed into a kid-friendly space where children can receive care without a visit to the hospital.

“Covenant Health has a long history of caring for children that began with our founding Sisters. The Child Health Clinic carries this legacy forward. This redesigned clinic ensures children and their families can better access the excellent care they need and deserve. I’m proud of our team for their leadership in innovative community care that improves the wellbeing of the people we serve,” says Patrick Dumelie, Covenant Health President and CEO.

Covenant Health is pleased to partner with Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services to provide care for children.
