This week's reflection

This week's reflection

I am even more deeply pleased if it has helped to encourage the young people that have followed our generation to express their pride in our heritage more openly, more joyfully than I would have ever dared to think possible.

COVID-19 Outbreak Media Statement (updated June 27)

June 27, 2020

The Misericordia Community Hospital continues to respond to two units on COVID-19 outbreak.

There are now 10 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the hospital. That is an increase of one positive case since yesterday (June 26).

In addition, we have eight staff who have tested positive for COVID-19. That is an increase of one staff member since yesterday (June 26).

There have been no additional deaths.

Outbreak protocols have been implemented at the hospital to ensure the ongoing protection of patients, staff and visitors. Surgical capacity has been reduced and the site is currently only conducting urgent, emergent and oncology surgeries at this time. A total of 28 elective surgeries were postponed yesterday, and 13 were completed.

Covenant is testing all patients on the affected units and is also testing all staff who have either worked on or have been present on those units even if they are not showing symptoms.

All potential contacts are being traced to ensure we reduce the possibility of spread and we are following Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness and Public Health isolation and testing protocols.

Visitors to the affected units are being restricted at this time. We encourage families to continue to meet virtually with their loved ones.

We continue to work with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Alberta and Alberta Health Services to ensure our hospital is safe and are following protocols to minimize risk of spread including:

  • Thorough environmental cleaning with hospital grade disinfectants;
  • Ensuring proper usage of PPE, including donning and doffing;
  • Ensuring proper physical distancing on units and common areas;
  • Ensuring proper hand hygiene practices are being followed.

We care deeply for our patients and staff. We are doing everything we can to contain transmission and keep patients and the public safe and healthy.
