This week's reflection

Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability.

St. Mary’s Hospital  (Camrose) staff and volunteers pedal to celebrate the permanent funding the hospital received for the Stroke Unit Equivalent Care and Stroke Early Supported Discharge Program while raising funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Thanks to many generous sponsors, donors and 50 event attendees, St. Mary’s big bike event raised over $3,000 on June 25 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The event included a stroke client speaking on the care at St. Mary’s, a slideshow and a talk from a member of the St. Mary’s stroke action plan. Afterwards, 26 staff and volunteers from St. Mary’s Hospital pedaled the big bike around the block to raise awareness for Heart and Stroke Month.

The staff at St. Mary’s Hospital remind us to be aware of the signs of a stroke using FAST:

                                 Face                       is it drooping?

                                Arms                     can you raise both?

Speech                 is it slurred or jumbled

Time                      to call 911 right away
