This week's reflection

It doesn't take an instant more, or cost a penny more, to be empathetic than it does to be indifferent.

Covenant Health response to Residential School unmarked grave discoveries

July 06, 2021

The recent discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at the sites of former residential schools in BC and Saskatchewan reaffirms Covenant’s ongoing commitment to addressing systemic racism and discrimination in all forms. We also remain dedicated to strengthening our relationship with Indigenous staff, physicians, patients, residents, families and communities through meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

Covenant continues to respond to health sector Calls to Action in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, including implementing Indigenous cultural awareness training programs for our staff and physicians. We have also established an Indigenous Advisory Body comprised of Indigenous staff and clinicians who provide guidance and help us address important issues related to inclusion, diversity and equity.

The Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program has a hotline to help residential school survivors and their relatives suffering with trauma invoked by the recall of past abuse. The number is 1-866-925-4419.
