COVID-19 Outbreak Media Statement (updated August 2)

The Misericordia Community Hospital continues to operate under a full facility COVID-19 outbreak. No new cases related to the outbreak have been identified since July 17.

We remind the public that the emergency department is temporarily closed. Patients are encouraged to visit another emergency department at this time or to call 911 if needed. Currently, no new patients are being admitted to the Misericordia, including to Labour & Delivery.  

As of today:

  • 13 patients remain at the hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19 in relation to this outbreak. No new patient cases have been reported since July 13.
  • 24 staff have been impacted by the outbreak. No new staff cases have been identified since July 17. In some cases, staff members who have tested positive were identified through the contact tracing process and had been already been self-isolating and not at work.
  • 10 deaths have been connected to this outbreak.
  • 58 total cases of COVID-19 are linked to this outbreak, including staff, patients, discharges, deaths and patients who may have tested positive in the community.
