This week's reflection

This week's reflection

I am even more deeply pleased if it has helped to encourage the young people that have followed our generation to express their pride in our heritage more openly, more joyfully than I would have ever dared to think possible.

COVID-19 Outbreak Media Statement (updated August 13)

August 13, 2020

The Misericordia Community Hospital is pleased that no new COVID-19 cases related to the outbreak have been identified since July 17. We are now working in collaboration with the office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and Alberta Health Services to develop and implement detailed plans to reopen the Misericordia through a phased approach when the full facility outbreak is lifted.

Our planning is focused on ensuring the health and safety of our patients and staff as we reopen to serve our community. We are grateful to the dedication and commitment of our teams who worked tirelessly to respond to the outbreak and to keep our patients, staff and visitors safe. We also thank our partners across the Edmonton Zone who assisted us in planning and in supporting patient care while the MCH was closed.

We remind the public that the emergency department is temporarily closed. Patients are encouraged to visit another emergency department at this time or to call 911 if needed. Currently, no new patients are being admitted to the Misericordia, including to Labour & Delivery.

As of today:

  • 11 patients remain at the hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19 in relation to this outbreak. No new patient cases have been reported since July 13.
  • 24 staff have been impacted by the outbreak. No new staff cases have been identified since July 17. In some cases, staff members who have tested positive were identified through the contact tracing process and had been already been self-isolating and not at work.
  • 11 deaths have been connected to this outbreak.
  • 58 total cases of COVID-19 are linked to this outbreak, including staff, patients, discharges, deaths and patients who may have tested positive in the community
