Licenses, professional registration and certifications
As a condition of employment, employees must maintain active professional registration according to their professional association standards, legislated requirements and Covenant Health requirements.
This applies to regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act. Other professions governed by government acts and college or regulatory body requirements may be needed to provide additional documentation.
You cannot start working until we have received and verified your information.
Licenses, registration and practice permits
Once you accept your e-offer, you must upload a copy of your original license, registration or practice permit from an approved Alberta regulatory college.
Ensure your uploaded document is readable and complete. If this information is not submitted and validated before your first day of work, we will need to determine a new start date for you. Contact your hiring manager if there is a delay in submitting your license, registration or practice permit.
Digital copies
If your professional association no longer sends members a paper copy, you must log into your member profile and provide a screenshot of your license, registration or practice permit.
The screenshot must include your name, the name of your professional association, your registration status, effective/expiry dates and any conditions, where applicable.
Temporary license/registration/practice permits
Once you receive your full license/registration/practice permit, you will need to submit a license and practice permit cover form with a copy of your new license/registration/practice permit and, where applicable, a copy of the results of your exam.
See the employment agreement applicable to your position for more information.
Incorrect information or expired permits
We cannot accept a license, registration or practice permit if your name is incorrect or the permit has expired. Contact your professional regulatory college for a new permit before your start date if your:
- name is spelled incorrectly on your permit
- name has changed due to a life event (marriage or divorce) and is not accurate on your permit
- license/registration/practice permit has expired
Basic Life Support certification
If your new position requires you to have current Basic Life Support ― Health Care Provider Level (BLS-HCP) certification, you will need to upload a copy of your original BLS-HCP certificate once you accept your e-offer. Contact your manager if you do not have current certification.
Covenant Health has an annual renewal program for all employees who work in positions with BLS requirements. Ask your manager for more information.
Health Care Aide Directory
If you are a health care aide, a condition of your employment with us is active enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. You must hold one of the following competency statuses:
- certified
- substantially equivalent
- deemed competent
Once you accept your e-offer, upload a copy of your original directory competency status. You cannot start working with us until we have received and verified your information.
To avoid delays, ensure your documents readable and no information is missing. If this information is not submitted and validated before your first day of work, we will need to determine a new start date for you.
If you have questions about enrolment or your status in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, phone 1.844.422.4337.
