Covenant Health Palliative Consult Team
The Covenant Health Palliative Consult Team provides support to the Grey Nuns and Misericordia Community Hospitals and Villa Caritas palliative care teams. Created in January 2017, the Covenant Health Palliative Consult Team is a team of Palliative Care Physicians, a Nurse Practitioner and RN Nurse Consultants who provide assistance with symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual care support and discharge options, including hospice and tertiary palliative care unit assessments and referrals.
A referral from the attending physician or Nurse Practitioner is required. Non-urgent referrals are made by emailing the PalliativeConsultTeam@covenanthealth.ca. The attending physician or Nurse Practitioner may phone the hospital switchboard for urgent 24/7 consult requests. Referrals no longer go through Community Care Access or the Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Community Consult Team (formerly known as the Regional Palliative Care Program, RPCP).

* ‘Hospice palliative care’ is the same as ‘palliative care’, i.e. both terms are used to refer to the same thing, this specific approach to care. However, some people use hospice palliative care to describe care that is offered in the community rather than in (acute care) hospitals.
