Osteoporosis programs

Osteoporosis is a bone disorder characterized by low bone mass. People with osteoporosis have bones that are more porous and fragile, putting them at greater risk of fractures.

One in three women and one in five men will develop osteoporosis, but it can be managed with treatment, appropriate exercise, and nutrition and lifestyle changes. (Osteoporosis Canada)

We offer osteoporosis programs that feature education and exercises to help you take care of your bones. The programs cover:

  • Osteoporosis basics
  • Back care for activities of daily living
  • Adaptations and equipment available
  • Posture correction
  • Fall prevention
  • Balance activities
  • Strength training
  • Aerobic conditioning

Our programs are free of charge.

You can choose to complete the program at the hospital that offers your preferred format:

You do not need a doctor’s referral to take part in one of our programs. You do need a medical diagnosis of osteoporosis. It is also helpful if you have had a recent bone mineral density scan.
