Covenant Health Act marks a Major Milestone
June 30, 2009
Covenant Health celebrated a major milestone this June when it was officially incorporated through legislation under the Covenant Health Act in Alberta.
Following the spring sitting of the Alberta Legislature, the Covenant Health Act was given Royal Assent and proclaimed on June 4—officially establishing Covenant Health and legislatively amalgamating Covenant Health member sites into one legal entity effective April 1, 2009.
This represents the culmination of a process which began last year, when the leaders of our facilities gathered to consider the future of Catholic health care in Alberta.
“This is a testimony to the strength of our mission as Catholic providers and our commitment to be of greater service,” says President and CEO Patrick Dumelie. “A year ago this month, our board chairs and senior leaders met and, with considerable courage, decided to step forward in unison to refresh the vision for Catholic health care, build on our collective strengths and work together to be effective partners in the provincial health system.”
The amalgamation means that our team of over 9,000 staff are now officially employees of Covenant Health. This could not have happened without the support of our fantastic team,” says Patrick. “We have accomplished so much in twelve short months.”
Covenant Health will continue the process of aligning the many aspects of our operations across the province. Over the next year we will review the many agreements, systems, processes, policies and procedures that are in place across our facilities and determine the most effective way to carry on our work as a single organization.
“We’ve already made great progress on many fronts and I am excited about our continued work on our Strategic Directions,” says Patrick. “I look forward to working with our entire team as we focus on being of greater service to the people of Alberta.”
