Inaugural Covenant Health Mission Award Recipients Announced

Recipients of the first-ever Covenant Health Mission Award were announced at a gala celebration on Thursday, April 15. Twenty-five individuals and nine teams from across Alberta were nominated for Awards in the six categories that reflect our Covenant Health values: Compassion, Respect, Collaboration, Social Justice, Integrity and Stewardship.
The 2010 recipients Award are:
Compassion
Palliative Care Team, Unit 9Y, Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre
Respect
Bonnie Mende, Registered Nurse and Coordinator of Program and Staff Development, Banff Mineral Springs Hospital
Collaboration
Emergency Medical Service Team, Banff Mineral Springs Hospital
Social Justice
Linda Pearson, LPN and Clinical Educator, Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre
Integrity
Marilyn Weber, Executive Director, Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor
Stewardship
Hospitality and Clinical Nutrition Team, Edmonton Acute Care
The Covenant Health Mission Awards honour those individuals and teams who are outstanding examples of people who live the mission in all they do. Congratulations to the recipients and all nominees!
“Award recipients demonstrated compassion, courage, creativity, leadership and resilience in their interactions with their colleagues and those we serve,” says Gordon Self, Vice President, Mission, Ethics and Spirituality.
Established by the Board of Directors, the Awards will be held annually in the spring. Each Covenant Health facility is invited to submit up to four nominations for the Covenant Health Mission Awards. Nominations can be submitted to facilities by staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, residents and members of the community.
“I know that the submissions we received this year are a representation of the tremendous work of hundreds of others within our organization,” says Gordon. “Continuing the healing ministry of Jesus, living our mission through our words and actions, and making decisions based on our values—these are the hallmarks of Catholic health care that resonate for each of us.”
