This week's reflection

This week's reflection

Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.

Library Services

Covenant Health Library Services provides quality, knowledge-based information that supports patient care and decision-making at all levels within Covenant Health.

We have two site libraries – Grey Nuns Health Sciences Library and Misericordia Weinlos Library.  Through these libraries, we provide physicians and staff at all Covenant Health facilities with access to books, journals, audiovisuals, databases and electronic resources covering a wide range of topics in medicine, nursing and allied health.

Covenant Health Library Services partners with Alberta Health Services Knowledge Resource Service to support health information needs across the province.  The Knowledge Resource Service website offers an extensive array of databases, electronic resources, subject guides, patient resources and education guides.

Covenant Health staff and physicians should consult the Library Services page on the CompassionNET intranet or the Medical Staff portal for more information about the range of services available to them.

Borrowing Materials

Library Services is a member of the NEOS Library Consortium - a cooperative library consortium consisting of hospital, government, college and university libraries across Alberta that collaborate to share resources.  Library collections are listed in the NEOS Library Catalogue.

All Covenant Health staff and physicians are eligible to borrow materials from any NEOS member library with a valid Covenant Health NEOS library card.  Covenant Health volunteers are eligible to borrow materials from the Grey Nuns and Misericordia libraries. Please contact Library Services to register for a library card.  Any NEOS library cardholder may borrow materials from Covenant Health Library Services, with the exception of NEOS external clients.

Most books may be borrowed for 2 weeks.  Audiovisual materials may be borrowed for 1 week.  Journals and reference books do not circulate.  Up to 3 renewals are permitted unless another NEOS borrower has placed a hold request on the item.

Patients, families and members of the public are welcome to use materials on-site in either library.  Covenant Health Library Services does not participate in the TAL Card program.

Interlibrary Loans

Covenant Health Library Services operates an interlibrary loan service to obtain journal articles and other materials for Covenant Health staff and physicians from libraries across the Edmonton region, NEOS Library Consortium, and DOCLINE.
