Edmonton General residents celebrate their culture with Chinese New Year festivities

SOTW_ChineseNewYear_Feb2012.jpg

Each year, residents of the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre’s Ming Ai program celebrate the Chinese New Year with festivities and performances including a lion dance, singers and dancers.

The Ming Ai program at the Edmonton General provides a caring home that meets the cultural, social and language needs of more than 70 residents of Chinese descent.

The Chinese New Year—this is the year of the dragon—is a wonderful opportunity for Ming Ai residents and the rest of the Edmonton General community to celebrate an important day in the Chinese calendar, as well as to highlight the richness that cultural diversity brings to the facility.

Through programs and services like Ming Ai, Covenant Health is able to respond to community needs.

Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year, fell on January 23 in 2012 and falls on February 10 in 2013 – the year of the snake.
